KUALA LUMPUR, December 4, 2015–
Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar’s widely publicized tearful breakdown in parliament yesterday was just another sad attempt to gain sympathy for her wrongdoings, a BN MP had alleged.

Izzah was in tears as she explained her meeting with Jacel Kiram, the daughter of the late Sulu terrorist, self-styled Sultan Jamalul Kiram who had previously lead the armed invasion in Lahad Datu, Sabah in 2013.

I feel very regretful and would like to apologize, especially to the families of the Lahad Datu’s victims, people of Sabah and the rest of the country who were offended and have been angered due to that picture,” she said referring to the infamous photo of her and Jacel Kiram taken at an event in Manila recently.

Seven years ago I have pledged to defend my beloved country, the Federal Constitution, and the citizens against any foreign and domestic threats.

She had begun to cry to this point, causing a minor disruption in the hall, after which the Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia called for order in the house to be restored.

Izzah’s emotional apology in parliament regarding the controversial picture, which depicted her holding up a ‘Free Anwar’ placard sign together with the self-styled Sulu princess, had registered mixed responses from Malaysians.

Izzah has previously explained publicly that she did not plan the meeting and was just there for an event hosted by Filipino supporters of her father's cause including the political coalition which Jacel Kiram belonged to and she was one of the honoured guests at the event.

However there were others who were not sold on Izzah's tears in parliament gimmick.

Referring to Nurul Izzah’s statements made in Dewan Rakyat yesterday, Tenom MP Datuk Raime Unggii (BN) criticised her apologetic speech as being pretentious.

As we all know, pictures of the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament together with Jacel went viral.

She (Nurul Izzah) was cheerful and looked very comfortable posing with Jacel Kiram and holding up the ‘Free Anwar’ posters together, which showed that she had little respect for the people of Sabah.

Obviously, she does not have a true sense of patriotism or abiding love for our country. She betrayed our nation,” he said when arguing the motion which was later passed in parliament to refer the Lembah Pantai MP to the Rights and Privileges Committee.

KUALA LUMPUR, December 3, 2015–
Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was on the verge of tears as she apologised and defended her meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram in the Dewan Rakyat.

Nurul Izzah, who is PKR vice-president, was given the right to address the House after a motion was tabled to cite her to the Rights and Privileges Committee over the meeting.

"I regret and apologise to all the victims of Lahad Datu, Sabahans and all Malaysians because of my photograph," she said, adding that she had learned her lesson from the incident.

The photograph of her with Kiram taken during a visit to Manila to rally for her father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to be freed from jail was criticised by many quarters.

Nurul Izzah remained calm as she addressed the House, controlling herself from breaking down in tears.

She stressed that as a member of parliament, she has sworn allegience to "defend the flag" and was willing to work with the Government with regards to Sabah.

The motion was tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and supported by Datuk Rosnah Shirlin (BN-Papar).

Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia allowed five Opposition and four Barisan Nasional MPs to debate the motion.
